Marriage

The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament.

Marriage, by its very nature, is between a man and woman and contains two aspects.

  1. Ordered to the good of the spouses – This means that marriage is meant to unite a couple together and is for the benefit of both, it helps both of them become saints.
  2. Procreation and education of offspring – This means marriage is for begetting children and raising them in the faith.

Both aspects are essential to the sacrament of marriage, one cannot exist without the other within the sacrament.

If you are discerning marriage, please contact the parish office to schedule an appointment to meet with the priest.  The marriage process takes at least 6 months or longer, depending on the circumstances.  Please contact the parish office as soon as possible when preparing for the sacrament of matrimony in order to facilitate the process.
